AECOM is actively seeking highly motivated Traffic Monitoring Operators in South Florida.
Operator is responsible for the principle monitoring of the freeway and/or arterial management systems roadways and possesses strong familiarity of the District’s freeway system. Monitors the status of freeway using CCTV, Road Ranger service patrols, detector data, etc. to include: detecting, confirming, updating, and responding to scheduled and unscheduled traffic and incident management events, congestion, and travel time imbalances in the geographical coverage area. Enters all scheduled and unscheduled events and congestion into SunGuide® software and disseminates information using ITS devices, website, and Florida 511 system. Coordinates with other control room staff, law enforcement, and external agencies in response to incidents. Dispatches Road Ranger service patrols and SIRV to motorists, events, and to assist law enforcement in a timely and efficient manner. Detects, confirms, and reports equipment faults affecting control room equipment and RTMC system field equipment. Coordinates with maintenance staff as needed.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Monitoring the roadways including detecting, confirming, updating, and responding to scheduled and unscheduled traffic events and congestion with ITS devices such as closed circuit TV, detectors, etc.
- Works under direct supervision performing routine and repetitive duties.
- On-the-job training is received in an area of technical specialty.

- Act like an emergency dispatcher within a call center environment dispatching Road Rangers via a two-way radio system to assist motorists, respond to events and other activities that require timely and efficient responses.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; must also successfully complete Joint Task Force (JTF) Security Clearance Process which includes fingerprinting process
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
Constantly operate a computer and other monitoring equipment..
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time monitoring Intelligent Transportation Systems such CCTV camera displays, meters, law enforcement radio broadcasts, answering/responding to calls and communicating to other staff or partner agencies.
- Familiarity with local freeways and arterial roads
- Effective reading, writing and oral communication skills
- Ability to work under stress and prioritize and perform real-time traffic management activities within time constraints, during crisis, or other stressful situations
- Ability to process multiple data inputs simultaneously in order to appropriately respond to incidents and to dispatch Motorist Assistance operators
- Operational knowledge and skill in the use of Window’s operating system, Microsoft Word and Excel
- The ability to work alternate schedules (nights, weekends and holidays) and short-notice work assignments
- Knowledge of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV)
- Knowledge of Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) and/or Highway Advisory Radio (HAR)
- Knowledge of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)
- Previous first responder, police/fire, transportation, dispatch, or call center environment is preferred
- Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus
