AECOM is actively seeking an Intermediate Engineer - Environmental/Civil to join our growing Western Canada remediation and reclamation team in British Columbia. The right candidate can work locally from our Burnaby, BC office; plus AECOM can provide hybrid work options to give the flexibility you need to do your best work.

This position is a full-time role and is expected to begin in November 2022.

Job Description:

Work will vary pending the applicants experience and career aspirations.

This position is ideally suited to an intermediate environmental/civil engineer with aspirations to develop their technical design career on remediation and multidisciplinary engineering projects in the following focus areas - mine reclamation; civil works; remediation implementation; and waste infrastructure.

The day-to-day roles of an Intermediate Environmental/Civil Engineer will be:
  • Support a variety of remediation and reclamation projects moving from final investigation through remedial planning as well as on-going remediation monitoring and performance evaluation.
  • Support the development of technical solutions as part of a design team, assist in the design and evaluation of engineering applications from options assessment to detailed design phases.
  • Develop, coordinate, and oversee field programs required to collect and analyze outstanding data gaps for design advancement.
  • Prepare documentation for design projects: technical letters, memorandums, reports, drawing packages, and detailed design packages, including specifications.
  • Direct junior staff during the completion of work. Collaborate with peers to create a productive team environment.
  • Collaborate with other AECOM staff and business lines to deliver multi-disciplinary environmental/civil projects.
  • Collaborate with client, contractors, and sub-consultants.
There are also opportunities for candidates who would like to compliment technical career development with structured project management. AECOM provided training, mentoring, and a variety of other tools for the development of Project Managers.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant engineering discipline; Civil, Environmental, etc.
  • 4+ years of related experience within civil and/or environmental engineering field.
  • Registered Professional Engineer or Geoscientist in Canada (or eligible for licensing).
  • Experience with the interpretation and application of regulatory framework such as the Contaminated Sites Regulation.
  • Experience with reclamation or remediation construction and implementation.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- 6+ years of technical experience with exposure to some of the following fields:
  • Northern remediation design projects; environmental assessment, environmental engineering, and civil engineering.
  • Remedial option assessment, implementation, system operation and maintenance,
  • Exposure to solid waste management projects.
  • Preparation, leading, and/or reviewing regulatory submittal documents.
  • Experience in project specifications development and implementation using NMS format, or similar structured specifications.
  • Project management and/or lead technical implementation with a shared scope, quality, schedule, and budget focus.
- Personal Attributes:
  • Highly developed written communication, time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills; conduct with integrity, work within multi-disciplined teams, deal with complex issues, and maintain effective working relationships.
  • A high level of initiative and enthusiasm for getting things done.
- Experience with project coordination:
  • Proposal writing, job scoping, and making project plans.
  • Working in a team setting to meet timelines and quality management requirements.
- Exposure to AutoCAD and experience with the coordination of design with drafting teams.
- Technical writing proficiency.
- Willing to occasionally travel for short periods.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite; excellent knowledge of Excel and Word.
