Job Summary
AECOM is seeking a creative, talented environmental technician or environmental scientist in the Portland, Oregon area. The position includes wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and storm water treatment system (SWTS) operations and maintenance, field work associated with environmental compliance, waste management, and assistance with environmental compliance reporting and task management (e.g. wastewater and storm water discharge reporting, waste inventories, compliance task management).

You will work in a supportive environment under the direction of the area department manager with various responsibilities, including the following but not limited to:

· Operating the WWTP in a safe and professional manner
· Maintaining required training and certifications including e-RAILSAFE, Contractor Orientation, Roadway Worker Protection, and state requirements for private WWTP operators
· Participating in client Wastewater Best Way program, Monthly WWTP Operator calls, and annual client WW Conference
· Perform all inspections utilizing the client electronic asset management (EAM) system.
· Perform routine cleaning of the DAF, API OWS, sand filters, bag filters, and other infrastructure associated with WWTP operations.
· Coordinating and/or assisting with WWTP repairs, maintenance, and cleaning utilizing the EAM system
· Read, understand, and follow published test methods and standard operating procedures, including company and client-specific programs
· Produce accurate and complete documentation of operation, inspections, and compliance
· Show initiative in maintaining and repairing equipment, ordering and organizing supplies, and maintaining the work area
· Effectively communicate with site representatives regarding schedules and task requirements
· Coordination with and oversight from task and project managers, on-site subcontractors, and field staff
· Office support including preparation of work plans, health and safety plans, and technical reports
· Manage environmental data. Prepare tables and figures to present data
· Perform other tasks assigned by project and task managers
· Support WWTP operations at other client facilities under the direction of staff as necessary

Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience
  • 2 + years of work experience in an environmental-related field
  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Must be able to successfully complete initial and random screening requirements including drug, breathalyzer, urine and/or hair test.
  • Candidate must be able to meet medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical exam.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Aptitude for operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to record data neatly, accurately, and legibly
  • Excellent attention to Health and Safety
  • Ability to write and to convey complex thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner. Ability to learn through on-the-job experience.
  • OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and safely drive a full-size pickup truck.
  • Tolerance for work in outdoor environments in a range of weather conditions and be medically fit for wearing a respirator
Additional Comments:
  • Applicants must be willing to be on call
  • Job duties will involve both field and office assignments with occasional overnight travel required
