Job Responsibilities:
- Leads engineers from multiple disciplines to deliver integrated designs.
- Responsible for appointment of competent discipline lead engineers for technical delivery.
- Requires multi-disciplinary knowledge of rail engineering.
- Plans and develops engineering tasks concerned with unique problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation and development of novel concepts and approaches.
- Builds relationships with technical teams within the organisation and individuals inside and outside of the organisation.
- Responsible for acting independently on technical matters.
- Works under minimal supervision. Supervision received is administrative with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
- May have responsibility for people management
Minimum Requirements
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer CEng / IEng.
- Recognised engineering qualification or preferably a degree in Engineering.
- Multi-disciplinary knowledge of rail engineering.
- Strong technical leadership of teams in the delivery of projects focused on delivering for the Client.
- Proactive approach to Safe by Design in delivery.
- Knowledge of system interfaces which impact on discipline design principles and demonstrable experience of the successful management of interfaces within projects.
- Completing quality control reviews of work developed by others.
- Application of Construction Design Management (CDM Regulations) 2015, Common Safety Method (CSM) within projects

- Previous Engineering Manager experience in rail projects.
- Experience of the application of NR/L2/RSE/02009 standard and associated responsibilities for undertaking Contractor’s Engineering Manager duties on Network Rail Projects.
- Experience of working within governance processes for project delivery (i.e. PACE, RIBA) and the engineering expectations of each stage of governance.
- Apply principles of rail System Engineering including requirements specification and management, designing for robustness (Whole System Lifecycle), Safety by Design and System Integration and Verification.
