Job Summary
AECOM is seeking a Communications Engineer for our Transportation group in New York, NY. The Communications Engineer will work at the client site as well as the AECOM offices.

Work at the client site will be in support of the communications design for a municipal rail organization. Support will include the design for the upgrade of their wide area network interconnecting various rail stations and other support facilities. Upgrades include replacement of network transmission equipment and fiber optic cable. The Communications Engineer will be researching existing conditions, proposing design solutions, and developing high level designs for these rail projects.

Work in the AECOM office will be in support of the same client as part of a diverse communications and security design group within AECOM. The AECOM team provides detail designs for IP CCTV, access control, intrusion detection and network systems. The Communications Engineer will work with fiber optic and IP networks. Work will be overseen by team of senior engineers knowledgeable in the network and security systems.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
• Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
• Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
• Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.
• Identifies discrepancies in results.
• Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
• Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in the engineering field + two (2) years of relevant experience and/or education.
  • Due to the nature of the work, must be a U.S. Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of fiber optic and IP networks.
  • Familiarity with researching existing conditions, proposing design solutions and being able to develop high level designs.
  • Familiarity of applicable codes and standards
  • Familiarity with transportation agencies operating in the New York region, including Amtrak, MTA (LIRR, Metro North, NYCT), Port Authority (PATH), etc.
  • Familiarity with systems related to Transportation and Rail Transit projects, including: fiber optic, copper, and wireless networks; security camera systems; access control systems; public address and variable message signage; telephone systems; radio; PLCs and SCADA; and other low-voltage systems
  • Experience with AutoCAD and MicroStation
  • Ability to travel (<10%) may be required for occasional field surveys

  • Offered rate of compensation (NYC locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $76,000- 141,000.
