AECOM is currently recruiting for a Structures Inspection Technician who wants to pursue a career in the inspection and maintenance of bridges and other structures. This role will be based in our Chesterfield office as part of our busy bridge investigations and surveys team within the bridges section.
The bridges investigation and surveys team are difficult access specialists able to carry out rope access, confined space entry, operate cherry pickers and erect scaffold towers. The team’s workload includes activities such as; cyclical inspection programmes, inspection for assessment, special inspections, non-destructive testing and site supervision of a wide range of highway and rail bridges, buildings and other structures. The team is involved in local, national and international work for both the public and private sectors.
The role involves a mix of both office work and work outdoors, some night and weekend working will also be required.

Job Responsibilities:
- Assisting with/carrying out the Inspection of bridges, underground structures and retaining walls to national and international standards, principally on highways and railways bridges, culverts, subways etc.
- Preparing inspection reports including producing sketches and drawings within AutoCAD.
- Complying with health and safety and quality procedures
- Care/maintenance of inspection equipment

- This role will combine work-based on-the-job training and learning with further studies and provides an opportunity to develop skills within a supporting environment which encourages challenge and collaborative behaviours.
- Applicants must be willing to progress their career after an initial probationary period to undertake a day release course at an identified Further Education College studying Civil Engineering
Following the initial probationary period, applicants must be willing to undergo training in skills such as;
- Working in water
- IPAF (mobile elevating work platform operation)
- PASMA (scaffold tower erection)
- Confined space access
- Non-destructive testing of concrete
No experience is necessary, but the position is ideally suited to school leavers at A-Level standard (or equivalent) who can demonstrate:
- A minimum of 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at grade ‘C/4’ or above, including Mathematics & English
- Three A-Levels (or equivalent such as a BTEC Level 3 in Civil Engineering) including Maths (excluding General Studies) and a physical science at grade 'C' or above - essential for level 6 Degree Apprenticeship
