Job Summary
  • Develops technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.
  • Experience in varied environments (preferred).
  • Experience in delivering projects in BIM and relevant discipline software.
  • Receives instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions.
  • Should be knowledgeable in general mining, associated regulations and technical standards.
  • Capable of working on as own initiative, as an overall responsibility and accountability for assigned work.
  • Effective communication skills.

  • Performs various management, leadership, and people accountability responsibilities for a specific technical group or department.
  • Has full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating technical assignments.
  • Generally requires multi-disciplinary knowledge of engineering.
  • Plans and develops engineering tasks concerned with unique or controversial problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation and development of novel concepts and approaches.
  • Maintains liaison with units within the organization and individuals inside and outside of the organization.
  • Responsible for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the field. Work at this level usually requires extensive progressive experience.
  • Works under minimal supervision. Supervision received is essentially administrative with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
  • Manages group of engineers and/or technicians, coordinating activities of the unit.
Minimum Requirements
  • 15+ years experience in the mining materials handling field
  • PrEng
Specific Requirement
  • Should have knowledge of local and international Mining Codes.
  • Experienced in the design of materials handling equipment such as conveyors, crushing, screening and milling.
  • Practical previous experience with commissioning, operations and problem solving issues is preferred but not essential.
  • Materials handling experience with multiple commodity types is preferred.
  • Delivering mechanical/materials handling designs in accordance with sound design principles, practices and specifications to meet operational, safety and functional requirements
  • You will have experience leading and mentoring junior Engineers and enjoy these responsibilities
  • Communication and leadership skills combined with the ability to provide advanced technical solutions and problem solve are essential to the role
  • RPEQ, CPEng or Chartered Status will be preferred, however not essential
  • Hands on experience in relevant software. Experience in Revit, Plant 3D, Navisworks, Excel, Power Point and Word etc.
  • Good communication skills, and able to work well independently at times.
  • Able to see the “bigger picture” and take a birds-eye view on projects
  • Must be able to make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way.
  • Confident, with the ability to work either independently or as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Mechanical engineering field.
