Job Summary
The Associate Director – Landscape role sits within the Urbanism + Planning practice line and translates strategic direction and leads a medium sized business unit, function or geographic operation, including operational, financial and people result.
  • Peer review work done by the team and in instances take lead on projects design and projects presentation and communication with clients.
  • Review and manage commercial performance of projects and provide guidance
  • Report on performance and compliance of staff and projects to management and provide mitigation plans where necessary
  • Attend creative urban design project reviews and design sessions and steer projects directions
  • Ensure diversity in the workforce and guarantee equal growth opportunities across the team members.
  • Attend interviews and assist/facilitate placement of new hires where needed
  • Review and provide feedback to senior management on head count and hiring strategies
  • Promote teamwork and a creative culture within the practice.
  • Deliver thought leadership presentations and inspire peers and reports
  • Provide all tools and required collaboration means for Urban designer to deliver inspiring projects
  • Maintain market and client communications around the studio design ethos. Be an ambassador for the brand and its vision.
  • Attend to projects deliverables quality reviews when necessary. Report on any noncompliant project deliverables teams.
  • Facilitate staff development of market required urban design skillsets through continuous reviews of new market trends.
  • Act as a partner to clients and collaborate and maintain close relationship with clients independently from projects
  • Optimize the use of internal tools and platforms by the team where necessary.
  • Present or be present at key presentations to Senior client stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the senior leadership to manage ongoing financial performance and projected financial plans.
  • Review bids compliance with external requirement and internal governance. Manage pricing and qualification aspects and promote price winning strategies.
  • Review achieved utilization against targeted utilization and mitigate any shortfalls through assigning tasks or allocating projects/proposals
  • Manage the short term and long-term resource planning by ensuring communication between project managers and geographies are continuously happening.
  • Report on any unsafe environment or any safety shortfalls perceived in the office and during meetings or commute in advance
  • Review staff career path and growth reports and agree with direct reports on plans for short- and long-term development goals of staff in line with the overall studio vision where necessary.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum 18+ years’ experience in the Landscape Architecture field, candidates would ideally have worked on government and private sector projects. Management experience is required as the successful candidate would lead a multi-disciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture or Architecture.
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Professional membership such as ASLA, Chartership Landscape Institute, CSLA, AILA, SILA, IFLA or equivalent required.
