AECOM is seeking to appoint an outstanding RIBA Architect with extensive post-qualification experience and significant experience in laboratory design in Research and Development buildings, to join our expanding Health, Science and Education Architectural Team.
Our clients are looking for your expertise in leading the design and planning of their laboratories. You will have a commitment to understanding our clients’ needs and co-creating customised design solutions that meet their technical needs and are innovative, safe and efficient as well as being inspiring places to work. You will have a sound understanding of laboratory workflow and processes and the importance of flexibility and adaptability in laboratory design.

The successful applicant will have a strong track record in working directly with clients and consultants and be able to successfully lead multiple projects ranging from £20M to greater than £200M.

Responsibilities:
- Work alongside HSE Director to deliver prestigious laboratory schemes and assist HSE Director with Bid proposals
- Successfully manage projects to time and to plan reporting to HSE Director
- Fulfil the role of Lead Designer on appropriate projects
- Take the client’s brief and translate the scientific aims to the design team
- Lead laboratory planning design solutions and present to user groups and other users as required
- Ensure technical project delivery is robust and compliant with all associated laboratory regulations and guidance
- Liaise with specialist laboratory suppliers and lead technical consultations
- Embrace and incorporate AECOM’s Digital Strategy and Digital Delivery Project Approach
- Collaborate with other project team consultants as required
- Embrace Thought Leadership and public speaking opportunities in relation to laboratory planning and related projects.
- Serves as the professional specialist for the organization in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles and processes for an assigned area of responsibility. Is consulted extensively by associates and others with a high degree of reliance on their professional interpretations and technical knowledge.
- Is a recognized leader and authority in a broad area of specialization or in a narrow, but highly specialized field
- Is responsible for the architectural program when the program is of limited complexity and scope, or plans and coordinates detailed phases of a major program
- Provides support and leadership to others in achieving the technical objectives of the overall work effort.
- Regularly called upon as a key expert in business development pursuits.
- Consults clients and makes recommendations to overall senior project leadership as a key liaison across teams.

- Collaborative team player who inspires team members in lab planning design/research and development buildings
Minimum Requirements
- ARB registered
- Post-qualification experience
- Laboratory experience delivering laboratory buildings throughout all RIBA workstages
- Proven track record of outstanding client relationships
- Proficient in BIM software including REVIT and BIM 360
- Broad experience in designing and delivering varied laboratories
- Understanding and experience of biosafety levels
- Ability to demonstrate clear issues and lessons learned
- Up-to-date with all relevant laboratory regulations and guidance
- Experience in mentoring and inspiring team members in laboratory design
- Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English
- Eligibility to work in the UK

- Experience in refurbishment and new build projects, Traditional and Design and Build, (NEC and JCT contracts) feasibility, design, technical, construction administration and employers agent roles.
- Experience and expertise in sustainable design
- GLP and GMP experience
- Experience in BREEAM/LEAD/WELL Certification
- Familiarity with research methods
- Experience in public speaking in relation to laboratories and science
- Keen interest in the future of science, healthcare and education, futureproofing and resilience in this sector
