The job:

We are seeking an Application Specialist, Liquid Chromatography to deliver reliable, robust analytical solutions to our customers, honour commitments and deliver analytical excellence.

In this role you will be joining a team responsible for: Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry product demonstrations; providing expert technical advice and training to sales colleagues; conducting customer visits, providing customer support and product-focussed training; application development; and presenting at scientific events.

We are looking for a high energy team player with in-depth technical knowledge of Liquid Chromatography and some experience of Mass Spectrometry. You will be joining a highly engaged, successful and passionate team working with the latest industry leading products and software within the Thermo Fisher Scientific HPLC Chromatography portfolio. A snapshot of technologies that you will support with in this role are: Thermo Scientific Vanquish Flex, Horizon and Core HPLC instruments, Thermo Scientific Vanquish charged aerosol detector (CAD), Thermo Scientific ISQ EC/EM Single Quadrupole MS and of course our flagship Chromeleon 7.3 Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry data system software.

This is a field-based role with a territory covering all of the UK and Ireland (and occasionally Northern Europe). On average, you will travel 3 to 4 days per week within this territory (including some overnight stays), with 1 day working from home. We are happy to consider qualified candidates based anywhere within the UK or Ireland, although our preference would be for you to be based near Hemel Hempstead.

What will you do?

  • Proactively demonstrate a solutions-orientated mind set and work closely with the sales team and fellow UK Chromatography sales support experts to achieve company sales plans and participate in achievement of core team goals
  • Manage allocated UK application/demonstration/training requests, ensuring timely and efficient, top-class delivery of customer demonstrations and demo reports, application methods and apps notes, customer training and other activities
  • Work closely with sales colleagues within the CMD organisation. Close co-operation with other chromatography and mass spectrometry product lines is essential to make best use of available resources and customer requirements
  • Provide high quality and effective pre- and post-sales support, working closely with factory-based product and vertical marketing teams, other product lines, service and sales teams
  • When developing applications and performing customer demonstrations, ensure that methods developed and best practices are shared using with other members of the team and the responsible manager using Thermo Scientific RADAR analytical method repository
  • Demonstrate and pro-actively use commercial awareness of the Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry business as a whole. Develop strategic arguments and implement during competitive scenarios
  • Make daily use of (SFDC) to track activities and opportunities, so as to develop comprehensive knowledge of prospects, customers and Thermo Fisher Scientific’s interactions with them
  • Ensure training activities are provided to the customer in a timely manner while focusing on customer satisfaction and on a continually improving customer relationship, leading to future business opportunities with the customer
  • Participate in the development of training materials and programs in cooperation with sales, factory, service and marketing teams
  • Identify training needs within the sales support team for the relevant product line
  • Identify potential marketing and sales collateral by monitoring demos and application projects and sharing such work/results with responsible manager, vertical and regional marketing teams
  • Communicate market intelligence and VOC information obtained during customer demonstrations and in the field to the responsible manager and factory product teams

Who we are looking for:

  • Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or similar
  • Several years’ hands-on Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry knowledge (essential)
  • Knowledge and experience of Chromeleon software (preferred)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to speak the “technical language” of the customer
  • Good self-organizational skills
  • Strong inter-personal skills
  • Valid Driving Licence
  • Willingness to travel extensively within the region (UK & Ireland) on a weekly basis. Occasional EU travel as required

  • Ability to work on own initiative and to meet deadlines and targets
  • Flexible and prepared to undertake tasks as required
